Bringing in the Big Guns

You may be feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with your divorce matter, but with an experienced yet compassionate attorney, such as Sabra Janko, Colorado Springs divorce attorney, along with her awesome team, we can assist with alleviating those feelings you may be having. We understand the role of counseling in divorce.

Let’s just say you tried everything and anything possible to get you through this challenging time in your life. You’ve been staying organized; you’re getting plenty of rest. You’ve been practicing self-care, and spending time with family and friends, as well as carving out some ‘me’ time. Perhaps you’re finally saving money and hitting the gym. But it’s still not enough. You still find yourself feeling overwhelmed, lonely, and sad. Also angry, frustrated and irritable. Please keep in mind though, that this isn’t an overnight success. And it may also seem like you’re always taking two steps forward, one step back. Story of my life!

Try as I may, I still couldn’t get out of that misery and depressed zone. And if I did, it was only for a brief moment then I’d be right back to where I started. Please know that all the suggestions I have made in my previous articles continue to help me along the way. I consider them tools in my kit for surviving a divorce, both during and after. I will say this: It’s ok to feel this way and to take that one step forward, two steps back because a journey is not linear. It has its twists and turns, obstacles and uphill struggles. Without that, life would be boring and there would be no growth, development, epiphanies and ‘ah-ha’ moments. However despite all that, I recently added another tool in my kit: seeking a counselor. I thought it was about time I bring in some professional help.

However, my search was maddening. I’ve spent quite some time seeking out the right counselor. I’ve made calls and left messages at various offices e taking new clients and my insurance. What frustrated me the most was the lengthy waiting lists. As long as a six or eight weeks. I said, ‘I need help now!’ I thought to myself, ‘does everyone in Colorado Springs have a mental health issue?’ I know hat’s extremely insensitive of me, but that’s how upset I was. Then I couldn’t find a counselor who would do in-person sessions. Me being old fashioned, that was a turn off. I like my face time. At this point I was like, ‘forget this. It’s more trouble that what it’s worth.’ Then I was told the Pandemic caused a lot of backlog which is why waiting lists are so long and that everyone realized that virtual was the way to go.

I know I wasn’t being patient nor flexible enough. So I waited. Until I remembered what someone mentioned to me: go on the ‘Psychology Today’ site. Sure enough, I read through this one counselor’s bio liked what I read, and she also offered in-person sessions. I got connected with her right away, but she no longer did in office sessions; it was all virtual now! At that point, I was willing to be flexible and not go against the grain, which was adding to my deep frustration. So why do that to myself ? I had to let go of my old ways and narrowmindedness and I’m glad I did! I now enjoy the virtual sessions. It’s super convenient; one hour then I’m done. I can continue on with the rest of my evening. I do want to mention frequency. I only chat with my counselor either once a month or every other month because that’s what works for me. But for you, that’s dependent on your needs, preferences or at the suggestion of your counselor. I adore my counselor. She would give me suggestions and advice on things I never even thought of. It’s one thing to talk to a friend, but it's nice to speak with someone who’s knowledgeable, objective and unbiased; thus giving the best service. Much like what we do here at Janko Family Law!
