Marissa Huntsman’s journey to law was born out of a deep passion for helping those on the margins of society. At her hometown in Indiana, she began her academic path studying psychology and biology in undergrad. During which, Marissa worked for two years in a facility for the seriously mentally ill, where she taught life skills and provided essential resources to individuals facing homelessness and severe mental health challenges, many of whom lacked stable homes and community connections. This experience solidified her passion for service and reinforced her drive to pursue higher education as a means of creating meaningful, systemic change.
Her journey eventually led her to law school, where she earned her Juris Doctorate and honed her expertise in health law. Marissa’s academic interests were accompanied by her dedication to hands-on advocacy, as she actively contributed to the Health Law Society and LAMDA Law Society. As a participant in the Health and Human Rights Clinic, she provided short-term legal representation to underserved communities facing eviction proceedings. These experiences deepened her commitment to using the law as a tool for equity, especially for those whose voices often go unheard. Now a law clerk at Janko Family Law, Marissa is preparing to sit for the bar exam to obtain her license in the state of Colorado.
Outside of law, Marissa worked in the service industry for 10 years and is even trained as a sushi chef. Her love for the culinary arts remains a key part of her life and enjoys cooking a good meal from scratch when she finds the time. She believes that giving back to the community, whether through your professional or personal life, is essential to creating a more just and compassionate world.
